The One and Only A Chair by TOLIX: The Original, an icon of French design. Conceived by Xavier Pauchard from 1927 to 1935, this metal chair has had multiple lives and identities. Originally galvanized and rugged, it mellowed over the years and adopted more contemporary colors from the early 2000s. Due to its lines, functionality, and durability, it has been globally recognized and embraced, perhaps even a bit too much, including by counterfeiters. For almost a century, every A Chair that has emerged from TOLIX workshops has been crafted by hand by artisans passing on a unique expertise in metalworking, involving stamping, bending, brazing, and polishing. These distinctive gestures, which earned TOLIX recognition as a Living Heritage Company, give our products a unique quality and an extra touch of soul.
