Description:

1940's Set Of Six Original French Multipl's Armchairs. Designed by Joseph Mathieu and made in Pierre Benite in Lyon . Multipl's chairs are an iconic part of industrial French history and this is the first time we have seen the armchairs. The chairs are in exceptional structural condition for their age, with original feet and hand welded sheet metal throughout. The chairs were probably painted red originally and have been overpainted in white several times. The exaggerated and graceful arms give the chairs great rigidity and are sculptural presence. Multipl's was, in its day the competitor to Tolix, although sadly Multipl's did not survive. Examples of Multipl's arm chairs are becoming increasingly rare. Seat Height 46cm.
