Description:
1930’s English Marquee Cinema Letter – U. Classic English cinema letters used at cinemas as signage for the film title, actors and so on. Made in acrylic plastic they slotted into tracks on the billboard. The term marquee comes from the French word Marquise, a name given by French soldiers in the 17th Century to a large fabric tent, and then adopted to cover the ‘tent’ like entrance over the entrance to cinemas and theatres. Listing is for one letter as shown. Judging by the condition, these are new old stock or certainly rarely used.
