Description:

1950's Small French Fischel Gueridon Table - Cast Iron Base. Fischel was founded in 1871 (to produce bentwood chairs) by Czech born David Gabriel Fischel, a successful vegetable oil merchant, using the first hand knowledge of his eldest son who had worked in one of Thonets Czech factories. First production was made in Germany in Niemes near the Danube. Later production moved to France in Alsace and sales offices were opened in most major French cities as Fischel became a major chair producer. As their chair business grew their range expanded to include a wide selection of tables and this is one of the best gueridons we have seen. The base is a stable heavy cast iron, layered with years of overpainting and visibly featuring the Fischel branding, it has a gently lean but we like that. The top is the original Bakelite, bleached in the sun and in superb original condition. Clearance height for knees 70cm.
