Description:

1950's Glass Fronted Sylko Cotton Haberdashery Storage Unit - Fifty Drawers. We recently salvaged a whole collection of original haberdashery shop cabinets from the original haberdashers in the north of England. This is the gem, totally original and in exceptional condition. The carcass is principally oak with solid beech drawers and glass drawers fronts. Exceptionally original throughout with a full set of original handles and wonderful glass fronted small drawers, retaining most of the original colour references for the cotton colours. Dewhurst & Son’s produced the Sylko range of machine twist cotton, the most popular range of cottons used in the UK. The unit displayed 400 of the original 600 colours produced, famous for their wooden bobbins and iconic label and sadly no longer in production. Founded in 1820, the mercerised cotton thread was produced by John Dewhurst and Sons from their Scalegill Mill, in Kirkby Malham, North Yorkshire. Cabinet production by Abel Morrall Ltd, Redditch. Internal dimensions: Drawer: 49L X 35W X 3.5H, Each Lower Cupboard: 21.5H X 35W X 54L.
