Description:
1940's Luterma Pretzel Base Bentwood Dining Chair - Set Of Four. The process of steam bending beech to create elegant chairs was discovered and developed by Thonet, but when its patents expired in 1869 many companies including Luterma launched production. Luterma was one of the brands marketed by Estonian factory A.M. Luther which was founded in the late 19th Century in Tallinn. Luthers production was principally in Estonia but they also had factories in France for local market production. At the time of the Bauhaus movement Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer worked with the factory to develop various models. These chairs date from the 1940s, a simple classic shape with a beautiful colour and elegant shaped backs and seats, they are however rare for their seat construction with bent pretzel loops and stamped seats. Note, one of the seats has been repaired at some stage as photographed. We service and rejuvenate each chair before it leaves our workshop and we deliver chairs of excellent quality. Seat Height 47cm.
