1930’s Original Strafor Klappet Cabinet – Forge de Strasbourg
1930’s Original Strafor Klappet Cabinet – Forge de Strasbourg. The Forge de Strasbourg was founded in the South East of France in 1919. They were one of the global pioneers of the manufacture of sheet metal furniture principally for industry, and undoubtedly recognisable by the signature rippled steel finish used on the original production. In 1926 the company launched the brand ‘Strafor’ and moved into atelier furniture with more sophisticated and branded pieces. This klappet cabinet is one of their iconic pieces from the early Strafor branded production. The cabinet feature twenty trademark klappet sections, all fully original with the original brass contents markers. The cabinet has been overpainted white at some stage in it’s history, the original colour would have been a khaki green. We could have stripped and polished the cabinet but in our view the character, history and look of the overpainted white is very special so we have left it as is. Our workshop has deep cleaned the cabinet and made sure all the klappets work as smoothly as possible. A rare original piece of industrial history also retaining all of the original brassware. Internal klappet dimensions: 29 cm long, 39cm wide, 16cm high.
Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
