1950’s Original Aluminium Emeco Swivel Office Chair (1334). Founded in 1944 in the USA, Emeco rose to commercial fame with the production of the Navy 1006 chair, an iconic aluminium chair design produced in aluminium for the US Navy. The chair was lightweight yet tough and crucially less likely to cause a spark if dragged on a steel floor, an essential for safety on board submarines and navy ships. By 1955, Emeco was producing 200,000 chairs per year. In the 90’s Emeco collaborated with Philippe Starcke and rose to international design fame. Amongst other products Emeco produced this beautiful swivel chair, made from aluminium with the original upholstery. Fully functional, it is height adjustable, with an adjustable sprung back and original swivel castors An exceptionally rare industrial American survivor. Dimensions are as shot, highest seat height is 51cm, lowest 46 cm.
