1950’s Extending Rectangular Dining Table With Shaped Top And Two Extension Leaves
1950’s Extending dining table with a shaped top and two extension leaves. The table features a wonderfully figured high gloss top edge banded with a cream banding. The top is a very gentle polygon shape extending in width from the ends at 85cm to 88cm in the centre. The top is finely veneered in ash with a central cross grain rectangular insert, finely gloss finished with a soft mirror sheen. The base is made from Sapele and each leg is tipped with a brass detail. The subframe extends to fit two original rectangular extensions which are well finished but not gloss finished to match. The table has a lovely proportion, 146cm in length but extends to 226cm with the use of both 40cm extensions. Without the extensions the table comfortably seats six, and extended would seat ten people. Please check our other listings as we carry a large stock of dining chairs many of which would coordinate very well with this table. Please ask us for suggested chair options, we can also send photographs of combinations and offer a ten percent discount when a set of tables and chairs is purchased together.
The table is in excellent original condition. There are two very minor and hardly noticeable points on the table edge where water has presumably got into the substrate and swollen the core by 1mm if that. The swellings are historical and have not altered the surface gloss or colour, we just like to be very open with any signs of age or wear. Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
