1940’s Rare ESA Esavian James Leonard Masters Desk Chair In Original Green Rexine

1940’s rare vintage ESA Esavian James Leonard Masters Desk Chair in original green Rexine. We have always loved the work of James Leonard for Esavian and the Masters Chair is one of his finest pieces. Dating from the late 1940’s the design has a grace and timeless elegance. The chair frame is cast aluminium, the arms a very solid laminated beech construction. Available in original green Rexine upholstery. Model 6509. We have a pair of Masters desks also available. Seat Height 47cm. If you look carefully the chair arms have been lowered leaving a gap of approximately 2-3 inches from their original position relative to the backrest. We have seen this occasionally on other Masters chairs and have no doubt this was a rare and original modification made in the factory lowering the arms sufficiently to fit under the Masters Desk.

Workshop Report

Note: The upholstery is original and most of the original foam cushion has flattened and deteriorated. The chair clearly shows a small tear in the upholstery which we have decided not to repair. If the chairs are to be regularly used we can strengthen the tear so that it remains stable but prefer to leave as original. Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
