1920’s Steam Engine Belt Drive Bearings

A few weeks ago we heard about a derelict brickworks outside Hull that was being cleared. The works had been producing bricks for over two hundred years although it sadly stopped production in the 1970’s. The yard was left untouched for over 50 years and fell into a pretty grim state. Fortunately the original turn of the centurty maintenance shed had been sealed up and was untouched. The shed housed an extraordinary batch of industrial pigeon hole storage units that were used to house the spare parts for the steam engine that powered the site. We recovered two of the original bearings used to carry the axle shafts that powered the belt driven site. The bearing is mould dated 1920.
