1920’s French Rectangular Farmhouse Dining Table – Three plank top
Description
1920’s French Rectangular Farmhouse Dining Table. We bought this table for its scrubbed pitch pine top and its robust proportions. The base and frame of the table are made from solid doweled oak. The top is made of three solid pitch pine hand cut planks with exceptional original colour and character. Originally this table would have had an oil cloth top which was held in place by the strips around the table top. At some stage in its life the condition of the oil cloth deteriorated and was removed revealing the original pitch pine planks. The owners continued to use the table with the raw pine top and over the years the pine has been bleached and scrubbed to a beautiful colour. The table is a practical size, the support rail is slim so knee height clearance is a practical 62cm. We love the original oak legs which unusually have not been repaired at the bases where they would have sat on cold damp floors. The table has a traces of historical woodworm which out of caution we have treated. Good scale original farmhouse tables are hard to find, this one is a gem.
