Description:

1940's Thonet Original Single Hoop Bentwood Chairs - Set Of Seventeen. Founded in the early 19th Century by Michael Thonet, Thonet invented the process of steam bending wood under pressure and used this to design the classic bentwood chairs still in production today. In the 19th Century he had a large network of shops throughout Europe and was a huge furniture retailer. This is an extraordinary set of original branded chairs with a very rich colour and character in exceptional condition. The chairs have the distinctive single hoop classic back, stamped seats and eighty years of character. The chairs have been gently refurbished in our own workshops and are in excellent working condition. The seats are made in the classic bentwood style of early Thonet pieces with decorative use of hooped forms showcasing the exceptional craft of the Thonet process. The chairs have a rich dark colour and character. Seat Height 46cm
