Description:

1960’s Original French T55 Tolix Rectangular 2 Metre Dining Table (932.7). Tolix is one of our all time favourite companies. In 1907 Frenchman Xavier Pauchard discovered that he could protect sheet metal from rusting by dipping it in molten zinc (galvanisation) and a few years later he set up his factory producing steel furniture. Tolix was the creator and founder of perhaps the most iconic café chair of all time, the Tolix model A, designed in 1934. Tolix used their metal working skill to also produce exquisitely designed and practical café/dining tables to partner their chairs. The table has spent its life inside a sports hall in Northern France so it has a wonderful aged and faded character, it is in excellent structural condition. Originally orange with a black sub frame and black legs the top has been repainted several times and its current colour is a solid light grey which gathering by the thickness, age and condition has been coated several time and we would estimate the colour is from the 70's. The underside was overpainted white at some stage. The table has the most exceptional character, showing years of overpainting, age and use. Knee height 61cm.
